It appears to be a matter of if not when David Moyes loses his job as Manchester United manager with the Old Trafford club stopping short of unequivocal backing yesterday following fresh doubts over his future at the club.

A series of reports stated that the Scot's ill-fated reign would be brought to an end, possibly even before this weekend's league match at home to Norwich City, following a listless performance against Moyes' former club Everton. Those reports cited the 2-0 defeat - after which Moyes praised the standard of his side's play - represented the final straw for the Glazer family, which owns the club.

The official line from Old Trafford about Moyes' position was that he "had definitely not been" sacked, although by last night it appeared to be only a matter of time before he was.
