Davidson aiming to leave St Johnstone on a high

CALLUM Davidson wants to see St Johnstone's old guard depart in style.

The 36-year-old former Scotland defender has already been told there will be no new deal for him at the end of the campaign and midfielders Liam Craig, who has agreed to a summer move to Hibernian, and Murray Davidson will also leave.

A win against Hibs at Easter Road tomorrow night would take the visitors ahead of Pat Fenlon's side in the SPL table. That would be one more step towards Davidson's goal of seeing the Perth club improve on last year's sixth-placed finish in the SPL before he leaves, with the full-back targeting the runners-up slot."The next few months might turn out to be the last time a lot of us play together here," he said. "Our squad is probably on the older side compared with many others in the league. But that brings experience and I believe we have a great chance of doing even better than last season."It would be great for the players here to really make our mark with a right good finish. Hibs are hard to beat [St Johnstone have already lost to them twice this term] and they carry a threat going forward."Pat Fenlon has managed to add a few players in the transfer window and that should help them. Getting Leigh Griffiths back on loan must have been a massive boost for them"But it is important for us to go on another good run. If we do that on the back of our win over Aberdeen we can really push on. "For me, we have to try to catch Inverness and Motherwell and challenge for second. But first up we have Hibs on Monday and we can go ahead of them with a win." Davidson welcomed the January additions to his own squad, with midfielders Mehdi Abeid and Gwion Edwards arriving on loan from Newcastle and Swansea respectively."I don't know much about the new lads but they have looked decent in training. Ideally you would bring through your own young players and we have a few good prospects here. But maybe it is just a wee bit early for them and the loans from England buy the club time."Hibs manager Fenlon said: "St Johnstone gave us a real tough time up there [in November] and we nicked the win in the end although they probably could have won it."The game here was tight as well. You say the same things every week, there is very little between all the teams. The games we are winning and the games we are losing seem to be by the odd goal."
