Alan Stubbs, the Hibernian head coach, has taken Dutchman Donovan Deekman and former Rangers target Matty Pattison on trial as he works to strengthen his squad before the window closes.

Stubbs has also spoken with Owain Tudur Jones about moving on from the Edinburgh club, while striker Paul Heffernan turned down a contract offer from St Johnstone to remain with Hibs.

Stubbs has admitted that he is content for the Irishman to stay but his attention has been occupied more by his two new trialists. Deekman was released by Sparta Rotterdam in the summer and Pattison has been playing in his homeland of South Africa.

"We haven't got a huge amount of money to sign players for fees, so it is going to be free agents and players out of contract," said Stubbs.
