Queen of the South have failed in their appeal to the Scottish Football Association to have the two-match retrospective ban imposed on defender Andy Dowie lifted and he will now sit out tomorrow's encounter with Cowdenbeath and next Saturday's match against Alloa Athletic.

The versatile defender was issued with a notice of complaint by the SFA compliance officer Tony McGlennan on Tuesday for standing on Ian Black's leg during the Dumfries side's 2-0 Championship win over Rangers at Palmerston Park last Friday evening.

Dowie attended a hearing at Hampden yesterday alongside his manager James Fowler in a bid to get the ban overturned however they were unsuccessful with Fowler saying: "We believe that we had a strong case however it was not accepted. We got a fair hearing and whilst we are disappointed with the result we will move on from it."
