Dundee have vowed to challenge John Brown's one-match suspension for his criticism of the penalty decision which killed off their Clydesdale Bank Premier League survival hopes.

The Dens Park boss was offered a one-match ban after being charged with "making comments in a media interview that criticise a decision and the performance of the match officials in such a way as to indicate incompetence".

Brown reacted angrily on Sunday after referee Alan Muir ruled Aberdeen winger Peter Pawlett had been brought down in the box, with Niall McGinn converting the spot-kick to tie the Dens Park clash at 1-1 send Dundee down.

A club statement today read: "Dundee FC can confirm that we will be appealing against the SFA complaint issued against the manager John Brown yesterday.

"The appeal is scheduled to take place at Hampden on May 30th and no further comment will be made until after that appeal is heard."

Speaking after the game on Sunday, Brown described Muir's decision as "diabolical" and added: "You expect officials to do their job and it makes a mockery of it."

Brown later warned he would walk away from football if the SFA punished him for any outburst about a referee.

Pawlett yesterday accepted a two-match ban for simulation for his role in the penalty award.
