DUNDEE UNITED want to sign Billy McKay from Wigan Athletic.

The 26-year-old striker hasn't settled at the Latics since he moved there in January from Inverness Caledonian Thistle and would welcome a move back to the SPFL Premiership.

After selling Nadir Ciftci to Cetic last week for £1.5m, United boss Jackie McNamara is in the market for a proven goalscorer and McKay is the man he wants.

It can be revealed dialogue between the clubs has been ongoing for the past 48 hours and a six-figure transfer fee may well be agreed by the end of the week.

McKay scored more than 50 goals for Caley Thistle and would be confident or reproducing that kind of form at Tannadice.

Getting regular football is high on McKay's agenda as he is involved in the Northern Ireland squad and knows he needs to be playing every week to stay in Michael O'Neill's plans as they head towards the Euro 2016 Finals.
