THE Football Association will examine Chris Foy's match report before deciding whether to charge Jose Mourinho or any of those involved in the injury-time melee during Chelsea's defeat by Aston Villa.

Mourinho criticised the referee Foy's decision to send him off for walking on to the pitch during Chelsea's ill-tempered match against Villa. His side surrendered the initiative to Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League title race after Fabian Delph's 82nd-minute winner. "I tried to speak to Mr Foy twice. I tried to speak on the pitch, and I tried in the dressing rooms," Mourinho said. "In the dressing rooms I tried to ask politely, can you give me five seconds? And he refused.

"It's a big occasion for me to know about the character of Mr Foy, because I want to know what he's going to write about my sending off."

When asked whether he thought he would be punished, an unrepentant Mourinho said: "Me or the ref? No, I don't expect, because I did nothing."

Chelsea's main rivals for the title, Manchester City, managed to carve out a 2-0 victory away to Hull City, despite playing most of the match with 10 men after Vincent Kompany was sent off. David Silva and Edin Dzeko scored for the visitors.

City midfielder Javi Garcia was pleased with a winning end to a tough run of games. "That was a big win," he said. "This week was a difficult week after the two games we lost, but we are focused on the Premier League now and we want the trophy."

Meanwhile, Robert Snodgrass has said that it is time for Norwich's players to stand up and be counted after admitting the relegation-threatened side let themselves down against Southampton, as they fell to a 4-2 defeat. "They are massive games," he admitted. "It is a time for heroes. We need to try and do it against Sunderland. We let ourselves down."

Elsewhere, David Marshall pulled off a series of wonderful saves in a valiant losing effort at Everton, his Cardiff City side going down 2-1. Fulham won 1-0 at home to Newcastle United, Stoke City won 3-1 at West Ham, Sunderland and Crystal Palace shared a 0-0 draw and Swansea City lost 3-1 at home to West Bromwich Albion.
