Fifers have fighting chance after dodging knock-out blow

There was something of a boxing vibe about this bout at East End Park, and not just because Aberdeen threw in the towel after going a goal down early in the second half.

Joe Cardle, who inspired Dunfermline Athletic to a first home victory of an arduous campaign, found his own inspiration by watching his brother, Scott, the Commonwealth Games gold medalist, punch his way to success in the ring on a Liverpool undercard the night before Saturday's contest. Inevitably, the post-match chinwag with the 25-year-old featured references to "fighting spirit" and "lifting Dunfermline off the canvas".
