FIVE arrests were made among the visiting support after crowd trouble flared during and after Rangers' 1-0 victory against Livingston yesterday, writes Stewart Fisher.

Police were forced to intervene after clashes broke out around half an hour into the match in an area populated solely by Rangers supporters.

Further problems occurred in the Lidl car park immediately outside the Energy Assets Arena, with mounted police called in to restore order.

"There were five people arrested and they will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal," said Alan Scott, the Almondvale club's safety officer.

"It hasn't been identified yet what they have been arrested for. The stewards and police assisted in dealing with the matter and no police or stewards were injured."

Rangers manager Ally McCoist admitted he had seen the trouble. He said: "It looked pretty unsavoury, we can do without incidents like that."

The result went some way to easing the pressure on McCoist, who has spent the week under fire following the 3-1 defeat to Hibernian.

"I have tried to explain that, particularly at our club, there's no real middle ground," said McCoist.

"With us, particularly at the moment, it's either up there or down there, which is understandable but within the camp we have to a reasonable concept of what's going on and know our own jobs."
