The former Scottish Football Association scout, Robert Rowan, casts his eye over the dangermen Ronny Deila will be making special plans for . . .
Jonathan Soriano (Red Bull Salzburg) The Spaniard possesses an unbelievable goalscoring record for Salzburg having struck 60 goals in 49 games for the club. An intelligent forward who plays between the lines, Soriano knows where to be in order to hurt the opposition in possession. He spent some of his career at Barcelona and looks to be at the peak of his powers. I'm surprised a club from the bottom half of the Barclays Premier League club overlooked him during the summer as he is more than capable of playing at that level.
Kevin Kampl (Red Bull Salzburg) A creative winger who is very confident off either foot, Kampl likes to go one-v-one and delivers a great ball into the box. He provides a goal threat, too, scoring 10 goals for Salzburg last season. It is very important that Celtic limit his threat by showing him down the line. That's the lesser of two evils, though, since it's rare to see a winger so good on either foot. One for the neutrals - and the not-so-neutral - to watch and admire.
Duje Cop (Dinamo Zagreb) A powerful No.9 who likes to play on the shoulder of the defender, Cop has excellent technical capabilities and regularly creates goals as well as scoring them - he hit 22 last season and has scored eight in six this. Dinamo are a technically competent side who can be difficult to break down, therefore it will be imperative that Celtic's defence are aware of Cop's movement rather than where the ball is. If there is one lapse of concentration he can, and probably will, score.
Marko Pjaca (Dinamo Zagreb) Pjaca is a tall winger who can play on either side; he's very strong in possession and can drive past opponents with pace. He is very highly rated in Croatia and at 19 is tipped to break into the national squad during the European Championship qualifying campaign. If he keeps up his current form, it surely won't be long before he gets a big-money move since he has all the attributes - power, pace, technical ability and intelligence - to succeed at the highest level.
Martin Hinteregger (Red Bull Salzburg) A defender Celtic should look at themselves if he hasn't already secured a move to a Barclays Premier League side by the end of next season. Hinteregger is a left-sided centre-back who is quick, strong, dominant in the air and very accurate with his distribution of the ball, long and short. In my opinion, he is the complete defender and is another in the Salzburg squad who will surely attract the interest of bigger clubs.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
