After the whole of his last season was wrecked by ankle, shoulder and Achilles problems, Fletcher is back to full fitness and has completed a full pre-season at Sunderland this summer.
He scored his third warm-up goal in a 2-0 win against Real Betis on Thursday after coming off the bench and his display had left Sunderland manager Gus Poyet delighted.
"Fletch came on with all energy and willingness to make an impact, and he helped us to make that difference," the Uruguayan said.
"When he came on we had more presence and he got one goal and one assist whilst showing a very good understanding with Connor Wickham. That's a big thing for a manager to have a player who is so happy at being fit and able to train every day. I am really looking forward to seeing Fletch on the pitch when the season starts."
Meanwhile, the man who could partner Fletcher in attack for the Scots, Chris Martin, is confident he can carry on his goal-scoring form of last season in the new campaign. "I'm going to get a hatful of chances again," the forward grinned.
