Darren Fletcher acknowledges that many players at Manchester United face an uncertain future at the club.
The Scotland captain was part of the side which lost 3-1 on Wednesday night to Bayern Munich in the second leg of a Champions League semi-final, a result which ended United's chances of winning a trophy this season.
It is also unlikely that the Old Trafford side will succeed in breaking into the top four of the Barclays Premier League before the end of the season. They are four points adrift of a Champions League qualifying spot, with just five matches left.
That situation sits uncomfortably with many United supporters but Fletcher - who has now returned from a bowel condition - is adamant that his team-mates must still finish the campaign strongly, or risk being moved on in the summer.
"The boys have got to play well to stay in the manager's thoughts for next season," said the midfielder said. "There is talk of a lot of changes so if you get an opportunity to play you have to show the manager that you want to be at United, that you are capable of being at United and that you are good enough.
"A lot of people will say there isn't a lot to play for now, but there is. You are playing for personal pride and to be in the squad for next season."
