Marco Paixao, the former Hamilton Academical striker, has gained support in an online poll to be called up to the Portuguese national team for the World Cup finals.

The survey was conducted by a Portuguese newspaper and followed a successful spell for Polish club Slask Wroclaw.

Paixao - who played alongside twin brother Flavio at New Douglas Park - has scored 22 goals for his club so far this season to become the second-highest Portuguese scorer in Europe. Only Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more.

"I've just had my best season and to end it with a call-up for Portugal for the World Cup in Brazil would be a dream for me," said Paixao.
