Mauricio Pinilla, the former Hearts striker, will compete at the World Cup after he was named in the 23-man Chile squad which will travel to the finals this month.

Now at Cagliari, the 30-year-old has impressed enough to warrant inclusion in a squad which will come up against Spain, Australia and the Netherlands in the group stage. It represents a rather significant departure from the player who became better known for his conduct off the pitch while with Hearts.

Pinilla first joined the club on loan from Sporting in 2006 before making the move permanent. He made just eight appearances.
