THEY SAY that football club chairmen can be scatter-cash at times but how many own 150 luxury cars, fly an Airbus for fun and had a theme park built for the family?

Introducing Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, who is heir to one of the world's greatest fortunes in the state of Brunei and has become the boss of former Dundee United and Ross County defender Brian McLean.

McLean has taken the bold step to sign for Brunei Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota Football Club - commonly known as DPMM - who play in Singapore's S League and are coached by the former Blackburn Rovers manager, fellow Scot Steve Kean.

To say it's a culture change is an understatement but McLean can't wait to get into the action when the league season kicks off this weekend when DPMM face Harimau Muda in their opening fixture.

He took the bold step of quitting Dingwall last summer because he couldn't work with Derek Adams - even although he had the option of another year - and has been effectively out of work until this week.

"My agent John Viola also works for Steve Kean so that's how it all came about," explains McLean

"I spoke to Steve and he told me about the league, the standard of the football and the way of life and I started to get good vibes.

"The money is a lot better than what I was getting offered back home and the climate is great here - it's 30 degrees plus all-year round - and you're in Singapore every second week because all of our away games are over there.

"It's the Sultan's son who owns our team. It's unbelievable how wealthy he is and what he does with his money.

"He built this billion dollar hotel called The Empire which is all gold leaf and marble. It's got a private beach, a ten-pin bowling alley, a cinema, spa facilities and a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus which is floodlit so you can play at night.

"He has 150 cars in his garage. One of his Ferraris needed serviced and he put it on a flight to London to get the work done and they had it flown back.

"He built a theme park for his youngest son which cost mega money! He has a hobby where he likes to fly this big Airbus - but he just circles it around Brunei because he never leaves the country. Because the plane is so big they need to re-lay the tarmac every 10 years and it costs $10million so it costs $1million a year just so he can fly this big plane about. It's scary."

McLean simply had to quit the Highlands as he was unable to work with Adams.

"I had another year on my contract with Ross County which I could have taken but I was too uncomfortable working with Derek Adams. We would have been arguing with each other constantly," he said.

"Obviously Derek Adams ended up parting company with Ross County and Jim McIntyre came in but that was a couple of months into the season.

"Fortunately I had the support of my wife Lauren and my family to help me through the last six or seven months

"People might say I'm taking a step down by coming out here but it's a new way of life and I could prolong my career."
