FORMER Rangers and Scotland manager Alex McLeish looks certain to be axed at the end of the season after his Racing Genk president admitted he was looking at replacements.

McLeish took over the Belgian side in August, but they failed to make the title play-offs after a defeat to Standard Liege.

Although, they are now in another set of play-offs for a Europa League spot, that isn't deemed good enough.

And despite having a two-year deal, the former Hibs and Motherwell boss seems certain to be sacked at the end of the season.

Genk president Herbert Houben said: "Our goals for this season were the title play-off and European football. At least we can still get the latter.

"We have just appointed a new technical director and our next stage is to look at the manager situation.

"Alex McLeish will remain until the end of the season and then we can assess things.

"With regards to replacements, Peter Maes [current Sporting Lokeren manager] would be an option, yes."

McLeish said after the weekend loss: "I will certainly have a conversation with the board.

"Maybe they want something else. I don't know."
