Motherwell boss Ian Baraclough has warned the Fir Park support not to expect wonders from returning striker Scott McDonald.

The 31-year-old made his second debut for the Steelmen against Inverness and produced a lively display as Well claimed a crucial 2-1 win.

But Baraclough insists the former Celtic, Middlesbrough and Millwall frontman will not be able to fire his side to safety all by his own.

The Caley Thistle victory was Motherwell's first win in nine matches but they remain bottom of the table on goal difference after relegation rivals St Mirren and Ross County also picked up vital victories.

Baraclough - speaking ahead of Saturday's home clash with Kilmarnock - said: "We have had several new arrivals come in since January and they have all contributed to an uplift in form and fitness.

"The guys who were here when I first took over have upped their efforts and levels as well. They have risen to the challenge and are giving me problems as to who I pick on a Saturday.

"Everybody is to be commended on the way they are applying themselves. We need a strong group and we saw that coming to the fore on Saturday, not just the arrival of one person.

"It's not all on Scott McDonald's shoulders and everyone knows that.

"It's not suddenly turned into the Scott McDonald show and he will be the first one to say that.

"He is a small cog in a big engine that is driving very, very hard to make sure we are in this division next season."
