Gordon back on Celtic agenda

CRAIG Gordon was again linked with Celtic yesterday and revealed he could leave the Barclays Premier League after having been released by Sunderland.

The Scotland goalkeeper is available for free after coming to the end of his five-year contract on Wearside. Although the 29-year-old may have to accept a reduction in his current £35,000-a-week wages, he has been identified by Celtic as a potential replacement for Fraser Forster.

After two season-long loans at Parkhead, Forster has not committed to a permanent transfer from Newcastle United despite a £2m fee having been agreed between the clubs. Forster may prefer to return to the England and sources in Newcastle yesterday suggested Celtic had not been able to contact his agent.A series of injury problems have cost Gordon his places in both the Sunderland and Scotland sides but Neil Lennon – and Craig Levein – remain admirers.The player is now prepared to listen to offers although he said there had been no approach from Celtic. "I am waiting to see what my options are and take it from there," he said. "I'm out of contract now so it's about seeing what offers come in. I'd love to stay in the English Premier League but if that happens or not, and if it's the best deal for me, time will tell."Gordon will fly to America with the Scotland squad next week. Despite playing only once all season, against Bolton last month, he said he was fit again after two years of arm and knee problems. I've been training for a few months now and hopefully I will get some time on the park against the USA."
