GREIG McDonald's honeymoon may be over but gifts keep arriving.

The Stirling Albion manager, who missed his side's victory against Rangers last month as it coincided with his wedding, was greeted with the Irn-Bru Third Division manager of the month trophy when he arrived back in Scotland this week following a trip to Australia, New Zealand and Dubai with his new wife Jennifer.

It is an award which is shared with his backroom staff Shaun Fagan and Marc McCulloch, and although Stirling remain rooted to the bottom of the Scottish Football League, their last result an away draw with Peterhead, and the trail of late night emails and phone calls between the trio suggest the club is moving in the right direction.

"I was in Australia for the Peterhead game and it was about 10pm there when the match was kicking off, so I was sitting there with a glass of wine watching the results come through. I am buzzing to get back but obviously at the same time I was having a good time at my honeymoon," McDonald said.

Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest of your life but for McDonald, his will always have something extra. "The wedding turned into a debrief of the game ... over a Jagerbomb," said McDonald, a former Brechin City, East Fife and Stirling player. "I was meant to be dancing with the missus and instead I was getting filled in about the game.

"Shaun, Marc and I have come in for plenty of stick and we realise we are bottom of the league – but are starting to pick up now, and if we can beat Rangers we know we can beat anyone in this division.

"I trust Mark and Shaun implicitly and I knew they would handle [taking charge of the team]. They have be doing a cracking job while I was away.

"The Rangers game is probably the reason we got the award but as far as I am concerned it is a great reward for Mark, Shaun and the players."
