The midfielder made his first appearance in a bounce game with Rangers six years ago as a weedy teenager straight out of school – literally since he had spent his morning in class at Carluke High – and was met with a wry quip from Ally McCoist, then assistant manager of the Ibrox side. "I was just about to come on as a substitute and he shouted out 'gaffer, is that my paperboy you're putting on?'" said Crawford.
