HIBERNIAN manager Alan Stubbs believes the signing of Lewis Stevenson on a new two-year contract is another step on the way to ensuring that his side start next season on the front foot.

Stubbs was entrusted with the task of rebuilding the squad at Easter Road last summer and overcame a difficult start to guide his team to second spot in the SPFL Championship.

Fraser Fyvie has also agreed a new deal with Danny Carmichael and James Keatings arriving on free transfers.

With Rangers now faced with the task of constructing a squad from scratch, Stubbs is positive about his side's chances.

"Lewis' decision to sign a new contract is another piece in the jigsaw coming together," said the former Celtic defender. "The plan is to ensure we have everything properly in place for the start of the new season so we can hit the ground running and progress."

Stevenson is also very clear on his immediate target.

"My aim is to be part of bringing the good times here again and that starts by winning promotion next season," stated the left-back.
