His Rangers squad may be short of numbers, but Ally McCoist does not want for players with substance

ALLY McCoist does not have enough money, he doesn't have enough players, and he doesn't have enough time to get all of his best men fit again when he needs them most.

The embattled Rangers manager gives the impression of being out of everything, except optimism.

McCoist yesterday attended a publicity event to promote ESPN's live coverage of tomorrow's match with Dunfermline Athletic. Whatever others may think of the players he now has at his disposal, McCoist repeatedly insists that he is impressed by them. When he looks around the home dressing room at Ibrox he sees qualities and attributes that others may find harder to detect. He sees – or claims to see – winners, born competitors and "men".
