Turnbull Hutton, the Raith Rovers chairman, insists a '42-club solution' remains the preferred option for first division sides as the Scottish Football League prepares to vote on league reconstruction proposals today.

Raith were one of the clubs who looked set to break away following an indicative vote on the saga at the SFL's annual meeting last month.

Hutton, whose club will be represented at today's extraordinary general meeting by secretary Eric Drysdale, remains optimistic that a yes vote will be carried.

He said: "It looks as if it could be very close and if it doesn't go through it will be down to one or two clubs dragging their heels and stopping it.

"A 42-club solution would be preferable, of course – that would be the best was forward for Scottish football as a whole."
