Greig Stewart's first-half opener put Cowdenbeath ahead and substitute Lewis Coult's clincher two minutes from time gave the Fifers a deserved, and potentially significant, victory.
Irons pulled no punches in his verdict, saying: "We can make no excuses about the wind because on the day the best team won and, personally, I didn't think we turned up today."
