Influential defender closing in on return to Easter Road

James McPake could be back at Hibernian before the squad return to pre-season training on Monday.

The Northern Ireland defender spent the latter half of last season on loan at Easter Road from Coventry City.

The 28-year-old proved a popular and influential addition and it is understood that he agreed a return to Edinburgh over the weekend. Pat Fenlonhas previously cited McPake as his primary signing target this summer and used news of his impending return to aim a thinly veiled criticism at city rivals Hearts.
