JAMES McPAKE last night revealed Dundee are dreaming of a final-day showdown with rivals Dundee United in their quest to pip the Tangerines to fourth spot.

The Dens Park side are buzzing after recently clinching their top-six slot after promotion from the Championship at the end of last season and the defender believes there's still unfinished business between now and the end of the current campaign.

Paul Hartley's side, who know a win over Celtic in tonight's televised clash at Dens Park would them to within two points of fourth-top United, have proved they can more than hold their own back in the big-time as they aim to finish with a flurry.

McPake insists they have set their sights on leapfrogging the off-form Tangerines in their attempt to set up a final-day crunch clash with Jackie McNamara's men on Sunday 24 May at Tannadice.

McPake said: "We've got six games to go. So it's possible.

"You never know how it's going to work out.

"It would be nice if it was going to come down to the last game against Dundee United.

"What a last game it would be if we could manage to be close to them and both teams were in with a chance of finishing in that fourth place.

"We've got to just take every game at a time.

"It's going to be six tough games.

"We're looking forward to them as they're going to be good games.

"Even if you look further back, the first aim was to stay in the league.

"We said that to every Dundee fan that if we managed to finish in the place above the play-off spot then we would be happy.

"The club had been up before but had gone straight back down.

"That was the biggest t hing but that probably wasn't our aim.

"When you see the players we brought in through recruitment, we were a better side than going and fighting in a relegation battle."

McPake knows Dundee have excelled on their top-flight return and maintains manager Hartley has been the key to it all.

He said: "It would be massive (to make top-four) It's been great for a new club to come up and secure a top-half finish.

"To be fair to the manager, his aim has always been top-six.
