Allan Johnston, the Kilmarnock manager, feels his squad will reap the benefits of a happier and more professional training environment.

The Ayrshire outfit have switched training sessions to Rugby Park after installing an artificial pitch, meaning they no longer have to travel to Glasgow University's Garscube sports facility.

Johnston, whose team host Motherwell on Saturday, has noticed a huge difference in team spirit.

"The boys are loving it," he said. "It's a much more professional set-up. I think it's reflected on the park as well. The boys seem a lot happier in training so I think it's a good move. There was nothing wrong with Garscube but this is just a much better set-up. There's a lot more togetherness, everybody is in getting their breakfast in the mornings together and even lunch after training. It ended up we weren't getting that last year so it's a lot easier for the players to bond."

Michael Ngoo only signed on Friday but helped Kilmarnock to a 2-1 win at Ross County the following day, and was then arrested on Sunday following a disagreement with bar staff in Ayr. Johnston said: "We are still waiting to find out more about it but it's something we will deal with internally. He is available this weekend."
