KRIS COMMONS is a doubt for Celtic's Champions League second round qualifying tie with FC Stjarnan, assistant manager John Collins has confirmed.

According to Collins, the 31-year-old midfielder is suffering following an accident at home involving a wardrobe door.

Celtic play host to the Icelandic side at Celtic Park on Wednesday, July 15, with the return leg taking place a week later.

Ronny Deila, the Celtic manager, handed Commons a new two-year contract last season and will be keen to have him in the side for the beginning of the competitive campaign.

And despite admitting that Commons' absence is a concern, Collins is hopeful the former Scotland internationalist will be back in training ahead of those crucial Champions League qualifiers.

"Hopefully, in the next couple of days Kris should be back in full training," said Collins.

"I'm told something fell on him - I think it was a wardrobe door or something.

"It's disappointing he's missed a week of training at this stage, but he still has a good fitness level. We'll see if he's ready for the [Champions League qualifying] matches."
