Mick Oliver, the Scotland scout, watched Macedonia lose 1-0 away to Croatia last Friday, and briefed Levein the next day. The manager had watched the second half on an internet stream, though, and was already aware of the merits of their performance. Macedonia are the weakest side in Group A, but are better equipped than Liechtenstein, who were the lowest-ranked nation in Scotland's Euro 2012 qualifying group, and opponents against whom Levein's side were not emphatic.
