Brora Rangers talisman Steven Mackay has already cemented his place as the most prolific marksman in the Scottish football pyramid with an astonishing tally of 55 goals.

However, the 34-year-old has emphasised that his remarkable scoring feats will mean little if the Highlanders fail to dispatch Edinburgh City on the road to the SPFL.

Mackay has spearheaded Brora's destruction of all before them in the Highland League this term, with Davie Kirkwood's invincibles completing the campaign unbeaten and scoring 134 goals along the way, conceding just 13.

And, despite the club's chairman, John Young, expressing a reluctance to ascend to the SPFL, Mackay insists he has no intention of letting all their good work count for nothing.

Mackay said: "It has been a really enjoyable season and I am really fortunate to be playing in a team with lots of really creative players around me. The midfield, the wingers and my strike partners create a lot of chances and this season things have clicked and I have put the majority of them away.

"My own tally for the season went to 55 last Saturday, so thankfully I'm still in decent form going into this one! I had an aggressive target at the start of the season - I wanted to hit 50. So, to have reached 55 is very pleasing.

"While it's nice to score goals, when you look back on your career, you want to have scored important goals in the biggest matches. That is the priority and when it really matters. These playoff games certainly fall into that category.

"I managed to score a couple of goals the day we won the Highland League against Turriff United, which was hugely enjoyable. To play a vital part in these games against Edinburgh and Brora - whether by creating chances or scoring them - would be the perfect end to the season.

"We have gone through the entire league season unbeaten and there is no way we are going to change that approach for this game.

"Our boys, and I think I speak for them all, do all want to play at the highest level and we will do everything in our power to get there."
