GARY MACKAY-STEVEN admitted it felt a bit "surreal" winning his first SPFL Premiership medal with Celtic but felt he had earned it with his performances over the past few months.

Mackay-Steven was a January deadline-day signing from Dundee United along with team-mate Stuart Armstrong, and has made 14 appearances, scoring four goals, since arriving at Celtic Park. The winger revealed it had always been his desire to make an instant impression and believes he has managed to do that.

"One of the main reasons I came here was to win trophies so to get my first one is really special," he said as he helped launch Celtic's new home kit for next season. "It's a little bit surreal but I think it will hit home when we get our hands on the trophy on the last day of the season. I can't wait for that now. That will be incredible just to have a medal and the trophy.

"Coming here in the January transfer window I felt it was really important to establish myself in the first few months and try to hit the ground running. I wanted to feel like I had made a contribution if we won the league. That was important for me. I feel really happy here and settled, and the boys have been great with me.

"Every manager you play under wants you to play slightly differently and I've tried to buy into what the manager here wants. That's made me a better player and I'm really excited for next season now."

Mackay-Steven played in both legs of Celtic's Europa League knock-out tie against Inter Milan and now has his sights set on reaching the Champions League this summer. "The games against Inter - it was incredible to be a part of that and to taste first hand the European nights at Celtic Park," he added. "They're special. We want to do well in the Champions League qualifiers and hopefully bring Champions League football back here. "
