Mark Millar has set his sights on a promotion bid with Queen of the South after penning a short-term deal at Palmerston Park.
The former Falkirk and Celtic midfielder spent the first half of the season with Peterhead in League One but was always keen on a return to full-time football and completed his move back south yesterday.
The 26-year-old and fiancee Rachael became parents to daughter Indie almost 11 weeks ago, and the Greenock-born player is thrilled to have secured a club closer to home.
And he is now hoping to help the fourth-placed Doonhamers remain in one of the play-off spots and do all he can to ensure their promotion hopes are not dashed the way they were when Falkirk were defeated by Hamilton Accies last summer after knocking out Queens.
Millar, who was freed by Dundee United in June at the end of a seven-month loan with Falkirk, said: "First of all, I'm delighted to be back in full-time football. That was the aim in the summer but it never worked out at Falkirk after Gary Holt left. These things happen in football.
"I think the move will be good for both parties. Obviously the manager, James Fowler, is learning himself and hopefully I can help him be as good as he can be and he can help me as well.
"I played against Queens in the play-offs last season with Falkirk and obviously, with the way Hearts are running away with the league, the play-offs have to be the aim again this season.
"Personally speaking, last season was a sickener, to get through one round of the play-offs and then be beaten by Hamilton, who ended up being promoted to the Premiership, was a huge blow.
"So, hopefully we can keep ourselves in the play-off places and make the most of the chance when it comes around."
Millar may have left Peterhead behind, but he is hopeful he is also celebrating the Blue Toon's promotion come May.
He added: "Peterhead were fantastic with me and I'll probably never get a dressing room like it again.
"The manager, the coaching staff and the players were all great and they were absolutely terrific to work with.
"I wish them all the best and hopefully they can win promotion. They've certainly got the players to do that."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
