Ally McCoist has warned of the "horrific" threat of injury posed by setting off flares, describing the incident at Falkirk as "an act of stupidity".

Rangers have promised to pay for the damage inflicted on the pitch after a flare was thrown on Saturday. McCoist said: "The damage to the surface is bad enough. Falkirk have put down a new pitch and we have managed to ruin it through an act of stupidity. We need that to be cut out right away. These things can give you horrific injuries."

Campbell Ogilvie, president of the Scottish FA, added: "The clubs in general, home and away, will have to answer questions. There's no room for flares in football grounds. It's crept in over the last few years. Like missiles in the past, we have to come down heavily on it."
