Rangers manager Ally McCoist has noted Falkirk's confidence ahead of their William Hill Scottish Cup clash on Saturday.

Falkirk beat Cowdenbeath 4-0 on Saturday in the Championship and McCoist has warned his team to take notice of the comments coming out of their opponents' camp ahead of the fourth-round trip.

McCoist said: "I'm already reading comments after Falkirk's good victory at the weekend - quite rightly - from one or two of their lads.

"They knocked us out of the League Cup a couple of seasons ago and are doing well in the league just now.

"They are looking forward to the Rangers game and they're looking to put one over on us again. You'd absolutely expect them to say that.

"If there was ever any doubt about how up for the game Falkirk are, you just have to look at their quotes in the newspapers. They're full of confidence.

"We've had them watched and they beat Livingston 4-1 recently, so it's a tough game for us this weekend."

McCoist's top-flight team lost at the Falkirk Stadium in their last season before liquidation, although Rangers gained revenge in both the League Cup and Ramsdens Cup last season.

And McCoist has warned that teams are just as determined to cause an upset against his side as they were before the club's financial collapse.

"We're a massive scalp, of course we are," McCoist said. "I make no apologies for saying the vast majority of teams raise their performance levels against us.

"That's not a criticism of them, it's just a statement of fact and it's totally understandable that they do that.

"We might not be the same team we were in terms of playing well in the Champions League and winning top-flight titles.

"But we are, without doubt, the same club and that's as big a thing for our opponents as it was before."

Meanwhile, midfielder Kyle Hutton is putting thoughts of his contract situation out of his mind as he bids to recover from his second serious injury of the season.

The 22-year-old had recently returned from a 10-week lay-off with an ankle problem before breaking his leg during an under-20s game against Partick Thistle on Tuesday night.

Hutton, who faces six weeks in plaster, said: "When I had my first injury it was a concern, so now it's worse as I've not played a lot and I've not had a chance to prove myself to the gaffer.

"It's one of these things that's out of my hands to an extent for now and all I can do is concentrate on getting fit again, so I'm putting it all to the back of my head.

"Hopefully people have noticed I've been working hard and the fact the gaffer came on the pitch on Tuesday to see how I was gave me a boost in a way.

"I could see he was worried about me. In the past few games I've been coming on as a substitute and that kind of thing gives you confidence that you're in the manager's plans.

"I feel really unlucky and I thought I'd seen the last of my crutches but I'm back on them again which is annoying.

"I'm positive though. I've been through the rehab process recently so I know what to expect and I've got my head around that already.

"I'm a bit more confident about getting fit again than I was when I hurt my ankle and it's just a case of getting through the next six weeks first then kicking on from there."
