McLean focus is on dogfight

Rangers target Kenny McLean has reassured St Mirren supporters that speculation about him moving to Ibrox will not affect his form as they battle to avoid relegation.

Midfielder McLean is out of contract at the end of the season and is wanted by Rangers manager Ally McCoist. St Mirren are currently sitting in the relegation play-off position, with supporters anxious about whether McLean and his team-mates can climb back above Ross County, Partick Thistle, Kilmarnock or even Hibernian to avoid a play-off and guarantee another season in the SPFL Premiership.

McLean and Motherwell defender Shaun Hutchinson have been linked with summer moves to Rangers once McCoist receives clarity on his budget. "We are in a difficult situation right now," said 22-year-old McLean. "I have a big decision to make about my future but right now I just want to concentrate on what's happening on the pitch. I've been in this situation before, when there has been speculation about my future. I just need to help the team out as much as I can now.

"If that kind of team [Rangers] are linked with me then that's good for myself. But I am just concentrating 100% on the pitch right now.

"The last thing I would want is to leave St Mirren with the club going down. That's why my main focus is on the pitch and nowhere else."
