Declan McManus had the best weekend of his life after scoring a goal in Morton's title-winning victory and then winning the PFA Scotland League One player of the year award.

But the striker has no idea what the future holds despite his exploits.

The 20-year-old's Aberdeen contract is set to expire and he has to wait and see what offers come his way after scoring 23 goals on a season-long loan at Cappielow.

McManus, who netted the third as Morton came from behind to beat Peterhead 3-1, said after collecting his award: "It's an unbelievable feeling. It caps off my best weekend.

"When I scored I nearly started crying but it was the best feeling of my life to hear that final whistle, knowing I was a champion.

"There are brilliant players in our league and they've chose me to be player of the year, which is a great honour."

On his future, the forward said: "I'm in the dark as much as anybody else. I spoke to the gaffer up in Aberdeen (Derek McInnes) a few weeks ago and we both agreed to not speak about next year until the end of the season and let me try to concentrate winning the league with Morton.

"I've done my bit, hopefully it's good enough to earn some sort of deal.

"I've been at Aberdeen since I was eight but personally I just want to play football. Wherever that I will be I don't know, it's not up to me if I get a contract or not. I just need to hope and wait and see what happens.

"It's been part of my life for the last 12 years so to leave would be heartbreaking. If it happens then you've just got to get on with it and hopefully I can have as good season as I've had this year somewhere else.

"I had my best year of my life at Morton. Everybody at the club has embraced me and helped me massively, I can't thank Jim Duffy and Craig McPherson enough for what they've done for me. The club will be in my heart for the rest of my life now."
