ALLAN MOORE has missed the last two days training due to illness and was laid low enough by the virus yesterday to be unable to pick up his Irn-Bru first division manager of the month award for December in person.

But the Morton manager is prepared to drag himself from his sick bed in an attempt to get his side's hopes of the Irn Bru first division title back on track against Falkirk tomorrow.

"I will be there, even if I need a wheelchair," said Moore. "I will just pack another 40 paracetamol to get myself there. I've not missed a game since I have been at Morton and I don't intend to miss this one."

After back-to-back festive period victories against fellow title challengers Partick Thistle and Dunfermline Athletic, Moore suffered the curse of the monthly award early with setbacks at home to Dumbarton and a 1-1 draw at Cowdenbeath, which caused them to drop to second in the table on goal difference behind the Fifers. But he feels the big pitch and good surface at the Falkirk Stadium should make for a good contest. "It's a big pitch which suits our style of play," said Moore. "Sometimes at Cappielow we get trapped a bit and don't manage to get our wide boys involved so well."Moore doesn't regard himself as a proficient enough mathematician to fully assess the league reconstruction plans, and for all that he feels there really should be play-offs for teams finishing in second and third place in the first division, his own promotion equation remains unchanged. Morton must win the league title to return to the top division for this first time in quarter of a century, but at least there was some good news this week when chairman Douglas Rae confirmed that he was prepared to cough up another £450,000 in order to make Cappielow SPL compliant, if required. "That is definitely a bonus, because obviously he has said previously in the programme that if crowds don't keep up, then he might have to go part-time and I have had to tell him to keep his mouth shut," said Moore. "It is good to see the chairman is backing us in that respect because it is along time since Morton have even had a chance to get back into the Premier League. "If you want to go up, you want to go up as champions. Dunfermline and Partick Thistle will have a lot to say about that, and a few other teams could get dragged into it, as well. But we will do everything we can in the next four months to try to make it happen."
