Motherwell manager Stuart McCall declared himself happy with the firepower at his disposal after John Sutton's double helped them to a 3-1 victory over Ross County.

The comeback win at Fir Park was Motherwell's fifth victory in six games and saw them hit their seventh goal in a week following the 2-2 draw with Dundee United and 2-1 League Cup win over Livingston.

Bob McHugh was on target for a second game running while James McFadden, Henri Anier and winger Lionel Ainsworth again supplemented Motherwell's attacking threat after all three netted in the previous two games.

Despite starting well, Motherwell could easily have found themselves two goals down at the break had Richie Brittain converted a good chance following Melvin de Leeuw's heavily-deflected opener on the half-hour mark.

But Sutton powerfully headed home a 54th-minute equaliser from substitute Ainsworth's corner and then combined well with Anier to finish brilliantly midway through the half.

Motherwell took control and substitute McHugh supplied another excellent finish to head home Simon Ramsden's cross with 13 minutes left.

McCall has lost a string of effective attacking players this year - including Michael Higdon, Henrik Ojamaa, Jamie Murphy, Chris Humphrey and Nicky Law - but he and his new-look team, who sit third in the Scottish Premiership, are showing an increasing goal threat.

The Motherwell boss said: "I like playing two up front. Sometimes you can't but I think Anier and Sutton, a bit like Ojamaa and Higdon, are a good combination at the moment.

"But it's always good to have someone like Faddy (McFadden) to throw on up front or McHugh to come on as well.

"If you look at our bench - Paul Lawson, Iain Vigurs, Bob McHugh, and Ainsworth, it's a strong bench.

"I'm really happy with the squad we have got. It might not be the biggest again, but I'm happy with the quality and everyone is behind each other and willing each other on."

Sutton took his tally for the season to five but was quick to praise Estonia striker Anier, who sent him clear for the second after the Englishman had laid the ball off.

"When we started out in pre-season, there was an understanding between us, but it's nothing like it is now," Sutton said.

"He puts in an incredible shift for the team and works very hard to get in behind defences and stretch the game. He has done really well for us.

"Bob did well when he came on as well. He is slightly different from Henri in being a bit shorter, he has a low centre of gravity.

"But I think between us and Faddy and Moorey (Craig Moore), we will hopefully get enough goals to see us high up in the table."

Ross County manager Derek Adams was happy with his side's overall display but bemoaned their inability to deal with Sutton and crosses into the box.

But he had another positive in the display of Dutch winger De Leeuw, who started after coming off the bench against Hearts the previous weekend to score the equaliser and set up the winner.

Adams said: "He's a very good player and it's good for him to get two goals in two games. He is just getting up and going.

"He has only played a limited period of time and was due to come off after 60 minutes.

"He will do very well for us but we obviously need to do better defensively and deal with the long ball better and cross into the box better.

"That's our main problem at this time."
