ST MIRREN have re-signed Conor Newton until the end of the season.

Newton's loan spell from Newcastle United was set to expire this weekend but the midfielder will now remain with Danny Lennon's side until the summer.

It is Newton's second stint on loan, the player making a name for himself in the second half of last season by scoring the winning goal in St Mirren's 3-2 League Cup final win over Hearts. The 22- year-old has been joined in Paisley this month by Adam Campbell, another young Newcastle prospect who has signed on loan until the end of the season.

Newton's Newcastle deal expires in the summer but he remains hopeful of following of Paul Dummett, who returned from a successful loan spell at St Mirren to sign a six-year contract with Alan Pardew's side.
