Colin Nish used to go to Easter Road as a young boy and hope his side would be the ones to come away with all three points.
He is now 31 and very little has changed.
The striker grew up a Hibernian supporter and lived his dream during a two-and-a-half year spell with the Edinburgh club before his time was brought to an end by Colin Calderwood. Any lingering disppointment has manifest in a less than successful spell at Hartlepool United.
The English club have loaned Nish out to Dundee this season and he will be reunited with his former club today when the Clydesdale Bank Premier League's bottom side arrive in the capital. Nish will likely revel in the return but was adamant his performance will not be imbued with a resentment for having been released by his boyhood favourites.
"I've got a lot of good memories from my time there. I grew up a Hibs fan and used to go there when I was young to cheer them on most weeks," said Nish. "It was obviously disappointing the way it all ended there. To be fair, I knew it was coming so I had time to prepare myself for having to leave.
"I left under Colin Calderwood. I quite liked him but knew myself that I needed a new challenge in my career. I've actually still got a lot of friends there and like to go and watch them whenever I can.
"I would love to go back there and do something this weekend, but in all honesty I want to score more for Dundee than I do just because it's against Hibs. They're my old team but we need every point we can get so I'm looking forward to going there and hopefully coming away with the right result."
Dundee are four points adrift of city rivals United after last Saturday's 3-1 home defeat by St Johnstone. Nish accepted that performance was below what will be required for his club to survive in the top flight beyond this season.
"We didn't do ourselves justice last week against St Johnstone. We all know that," said the striker. "We had played better in the previous weeks so the Saints game is just one we want to put right and get out of our system.
"We've shown we can win in Edinburgh already this season, away to Hearts which was a big victory for the lads, winning 1-0 after being under a lot of pressure.
"We've got to go to Easter Road with the same sort of mentality and really battle for everything. Morale is good within the camp and we believe we can get the three points by playing to our full potential."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
