Motherwell need to raise £125,000 within one month in order to become the Clydesdale Bank Premier League's first supporter-run club.

The Motherwell board have set a deadline of March 31 to collect £250,000 through fans signing up for the Well Society, with the eventual goal being for the group to take over the club. Leanne Dempster, the Fir Park club's chief executive, has previously made clear that the scheme needs to prove its financial viability before going any further forward. The Well Society will initially take possession of half of the 75% shareholding which former chairman John Boyle gifted back to the club when he stepped down last summer. The remaining 37.5% of the shares – and controlling stake – will be transferred in due course if it is deemed that the group are viable owners. With over 250 people already signed up to join the Well Society, the club say they are "on course to create SPL history," although a final push is still necessary. "We've had a brilliant response so far but we need more fans to sign up," said Dempster.
