Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale) took his third stage win of the Tour, but his victory was overshadowed by the crash with 26km to go which took out 30 riders.
Millar tweeted: "Oh sweet Jesus that was scary. Approx 70km/h pile up, like a tidal wave of debris smashing towards us, could do nothing but brake and pray. Knee caps smashed, chain ring in chest, thigh and ankle bruised."
