Brechin City v Peterhead
Brechin City v Peterhead
Both of these sides have made promising starts to their League 1 campaigns with four points apiece, so it promises to be a close one at Glebe Park where the hosts got the better of Stenhousemuir at the weekend while the visitors recorded an impressive victory at Airdrie.
Ray McKinnon, the Brechin manager, hopes to name an unchanged side while the Peterhead striker Rory McAllister, taken off as a precaution on Saturday, should be fit to face his old side.
Prediction Away win
Brora Rangers v East Fife
Having disposed of League 1 Stenhousemuir in the first round, Brora Rangers may feel they have little to fear from an East Fife team who have yet to win their first points in League 2. However, manager David Kirkwood still rates his Highland League side as underdogs against the senior outfit. East Fife manager Gary Naysmith, not relishing the long trip north, does so with several players nursing knocks in the wake of a gruelling 3-2 defeat by Berwick Rangers.
Prediction Home win
Dunfermline Athletic v Falkirk
Having knocked out holders Raith Rovers in the first round, the hosts should face their old foes Falkirk in good heart. However, manager Jim Jefferies knows his side will have to display their cup form rather than the league showings which resulted in a solitary point from their first two games. He has Ryan Wallace struggling with injury and Jefferies is likely to make changes from the side that lost 2-0 at Forfar on Saturday, manager Peter Houston, encouraged by his side's showing against Rangers, will field a similar team.
Prediction Away win
Morton v Berwick Rangers
Having already knocked the Wee Rangers out of the League Cup, Jim Duffy's Morton side, who secured their first three points of the season with a comfortable 4-0 win over Stranraer at the weekend, are attempting to complete a double over a Berwick Rangers side who also won at the weekend.
Morton midfielder Jordan Allan is still suspended while the Berwick midfielder Paul Currie is struggling after sustaining an injury in Saturday's 3-2 away victory over East Fife.
Prediction Home win
Stirling Albion v Alloa Athletic
A central derby will provide one of these sides with something to celebrate following league defeats on Saturday. Grieg McDonald, the Stirling Albion manager, is hoping home advantage, will favour his side against a team from the division above.
McDonald is likely to again be without injured striker Steven Doris while Barry Smith, his Alloa counterpart, may make changes. David Weatherston and Eddie Fearns are nearing their returns after injury and could be involved.
Prediction Away win
Stranraer v Albion Rovers
Stranraer are bidding to bounce back from their mauling at Morton, a game in which they had two players ordered off. The visitors are also on the back of a defeat, having gone down to Arbroath at the weekend and the Coatbridge side will hope to rekindle some of last season's famous cup exploits.
Steven Bell is still struggling for Stranraer. Darren Young, the Albion Rovers manager, is confident his side can recover from what was their first defeat over 90 minutes this season.
Prediction Home win
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
