SCOTLAND

David Marshall: Selected ahead of Celtic keeper Craig Gordon. Was quickly on to Valeri Qazaishvili's dangerous through-ball just before half-time. It was virtually all he had to do in the game. Remained vigilant despite his lack of involvement. Bound to keep his place for Tuesday night against Poland 6

Alan Hutton: Hared up and down the right flank all night. Was dependable defensively and posed a serious threat in attack on his old Ibrox stomping ground. Teed up Steven Naismith with one of the best chances of the game in the second half 6

Russell Martin: Not the most demanding evening the Norwich City player has endured in his international career. Nevertheless, he stayed alert and solid throughout the 90 minutes and marshalled the back line effectively 6

Grant Hanley: Snuffed out what little threat Georgian striker Nikoloz Gelashvili posed effectively. The clean sheet will do the 22-year-old Blackburn Rovers centre-half's burgeoning confidence at international level the world of good. Played his part well 7

Andrew Robertson: The 20-year-old's first appearance in a competitive international. Rest assured, it will not be his last. The Hull City defender performed with a maturity that belied his tender years and never looked out of place at this level. His cross led to the only goal of the game 8

Shaun Maloney: The little Wigan forward started brightly and it was no surprise when he opened the scoring. His shot from the edge of the Georgia penalty area was deflected in by Akaki Khubutia in the 28th minute. Looked a threat whenever he got on the ball and provided a vital spark for the Scotland attack 7

Scott Brown: Named captain for the evening after Darren Fletcher was left on the bench. The Celtic midfielder put in his usual industrious shift. Broke up opposition attacks, won possession and drove his side on in trademark snarling fashion while continually winding up the opposition. Deserved to be named Man of the Match 8

James Morrison: Preferred to Darren Fletcher as a deep-lying midfielder in Gordon Strachan's favoured 4-2-3-1 formation. He excelled in the role. Did not shirk the physical aspect of the game. Booked for a foul on Giorgi Kvirkvelia in the first half 7

Ikechi Anya: The diminutive Watford winger is clearly keen to score more goals like the one he netted against Germany in Dortmund last month in his international career. Probed the Georgia defence for an opening all night. Will thrive on better service 6

Steven Naismith: Dropped back from his usual role up front to play just off Steven Fletcher. Linked the Scotland midfield with their striker well. He should, though, have scored on the hour mark on his return to Ibrox. He shot straight at Giorgi Loria. End product was lacking despite some neat touches 6

Steven Fletcher: Recalled to the starting line-up after rediscovering his scoring touch for Sunderland last weekend. Was a real handful for the visiting defence. No goals, but he showed great vision and the occasional flash of brilliance to more than justify his selection 6

Substitutes: James McArthur took over from Naismith with 10 minutes remaining and used his cameo appearance to make his presence felt in midfield. Derby County striker Chris Martin took over from Fletcher to win just his second cap as Strachan ran the clock down.

GEORGIA

Giorgi Loria: Was unlucky to see his block from Shaun Maloney's 28th-minute shot hit Khubutia and go into the net. Made decent saves from Steven Naismith and James Morrison and was never shy to come for crosses7

Ucha Lobzhanidze: Must have feared the worst when he found himself up against the pace of Ikechi Anya and Andrew Robertson, but settled into the game reasonably well after a torrid opening. 6

Solomon Kverkvelia: Put a weak header wide from a corner kick in the first half during one of Georgia's very few advances upfield. Looked comfortable on the ball and did relatively well in the centre of defence, making one important tackle on Steven Fletcher 6

Akaki Khubutia: Powerless to stop Maloney's shot from ricocheting off him and landing in his own net after 28 minutes. He can hardly be blamed for that and kept his head up in difficult circumstances 6

Gia Grigalava: The left-back struggled to handle Maloney and Alan Hutton during the first 45, with his own distribution of the ball leaving much to be desired at times. Was booked in the second half following a silly confrontation with Hutton, but put up more of a fight after the break 5

Giorgi Papava: Started the game in right midfield, but offered little in the way of an attacking threat. Replaced by Dzaria with 20 minutes remaining, having contributed little of note 4

Jaba Kankava: One of the few players in the Georgia side who looked capable of creating something. Was duly chopped down by Scott Brown just before the half-time interval, proof that he was regarded as a threat by the Scottish camp. Sadly, the Georgia captain found almost no-one around him to be on the same wavelength 6

Murtaz Daushvili: Booked in the second half for a cynical foul on Anya. Produced some decent defensive work, but offered little in terms of attack from his central midfield role 5

David Kvirkvelia: Replaced at half-time by the more dangerous-looking Okriashvili. A display notable only for the moment he wasted a set-piece from an excellent position in the first half. Did precious little during his time on the pitch in left-midfield 4

Valeri Qazaishvili: Fielded as the chief support to centre-forward Gelashvili in a 4-4-1-1 formation, but struggled desperately to get into the play. Did latch onto one forward ball from Kankava and attempted to feed Gelashvili, but misplaced the pass. Maloney was booked for fouling him 5

Nikoloz Gelashvili: Faced a truly thankless task up front as he received no real service at all over the 90 minutes and was a largely isolated figure. Started dropping deeper as the match went on and did show a flash of pace to win a corner from Robertson as well as setting up a late chance for Dzaria 6

Substitutes: Tornike Okriashvili (on for David Kvirkvelia 46) showed some good touches in left midfield and produced the cross that eventually led to Dzaria's late chance, a heart-stopping moment for Scotland supporters. He is a clearly creative player and it is surprising he was not given a starting berth. Irakli Dzaria (on for Papava 70) came close to snatching an equaliser as Georgia became a little more adventurous late on. Sent a shot just wide of the post after an Okriashvili cross had broken to him. Giorgi Chanturia (on for Qazaishvili 80) came on late in the game as Georgia came out of their shell. Was largely reduced to chasing shadows, though, from his position wide on the right
