Coventry have parted company with boss Steven Pressley, the club announced, continuing a black fortnight for Scottish managers south of the border
The Sky Blues lost a 2-0 lead against 10 men at Sheffield United on Saturday to draw 2-2 and fall into the bottom four in Sky Bet League One. Pressley had been in charge since 2013 with the weekend's draw his 100th, and final, game in charge.
His sacking comes on the back of Darren Ferguson being relieved of his duties at Peterborough at the weekend and Paul Lambert's sacking at Aston Villa leaving the English top flight with a Scottish manager for the first time in three decades.
Chief executive Steve Waggott told the club's official site: "This has been a very difficult decision from a personal and professional point of view, and we would like to place on record our thanks to Steven for his efforts over the last two years.
"But results over recent weeks and months, and our precarious position in the league table, means that a change of direction at first-team level is needed. Neil MacFarlane and Dave Hockaday have been placed in temporary charge."
Coventry only won six of their last 28 games under Pressley and are winless in their last seven matches, a run which has seen them drop into the relegation zone.
They are a point from the safety line with a game in hand and host MK Dons on Saturday.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
