Hibernian leapfrogged Rangers into second place in the Scottish Championship after notching up their third league win of the season over the Light Blues.
Goals from Scott Robertson and Lewis Stevenson secured all three points for the Leith side at Ibrox.
The win allowed Hibs to move ahead of Rangers in the table, albeit they have played three games more.
As well as disappointing results on the park, off-field issues continue to dominate behind the scenes at Gers.
Before the match, there was another fans' protest against the board, led by former players John Brown and Nacho Novo.
For this clash, Lee Robinson started in goal for Rangers after Steve Simonsen was banned for breaching gambling rules.
Skipper Lee McCulloch was also suspended, while Andrew Murdoch was handed his first start for the club.
Keith Watson was drafted back into the Hibs side after being cup-tied for their William Hill Scottish Cup tie, while Dominique Malonga also started after serving a ban.
It was Rangers who almost opened the scoring after just nine minutes when Haris Vuckic tested goalkeeper Mark Oxley with a fierce shot.
The Hibs number one parried into the path of Kenny Miller, who saw his own effort nodded off the line by Liam Fontaine.
The veteran striker then had a go with a shot from distance that was tipped over at full stretch by Oxley, before Kris Boyd's bullet header went wide from the corner.
Despite the early pressure from the home side, it was Hibs who opened the scoring after 19 minutes.
An effort from Jason Cummings was blocked well by Robinson but Robertson reacted first to pounce on the rebound and fire low beyond the grasp of the goalkeeper.
Rangers were then forced to make a change when Miller limped off injured after half an hour and was replaced by Nicky Clark.
The forward could have had an immediate impact when he was released through on goal by a lovely flick on from Boyd but lost his footing before he could unleash the shot.
Rangers continued to try to haul themselves back into the game in the second half.
Vuckic went to ground under pressure from Paul Hanlon shortly after the restart but there was no penalty from referee Steven McLean.
Sebastien Faure and Boyd then both failed to keep their close range headers on target as Rangers stepped up their attempts to find the equaliser.
But hopes of a comeback were shattered with nine minutes to go when Hibs doubled their lead.
Fraser Fyvie supplied the ball into the box for Stevenson and he responded with a terrific volley that left the keeper with no chance.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
