STUART McCall could take charge of Rangers for the final time today if his side fail to overhaul the 3-1 lead Motherwell hold after the first leg of the SPFL Premiership play-off final, but the interim manager is more concerned about the club than his own position.

Being unable to secure promotion would deal a serious, possibly fatal, blow to McCall's prospects of being appointed on a full-time basis, but a conversation with his former manager Walter Smith before the first leg on Thursday evening put the uncertainty over his future into perspective.

"I don't think about myself," said McCall, who helped the club to win nine Scottish titles in succession in the 1990s "I had a good chat with Walter for 15 minutes before the game. He was really good. He talked about things that happened to him in his career and while he was at Rangers.

"I just focus on what we're doing and don't think: 'Oh, this could be my last game'. It is what it is and of course it's a big game. Of course the club would like to get promoted.

"I don't think that outwith our dressing room people give us much of a chance. There are a few lads who might be playing their last game for Rangers. They have to do everything they can to make sure it's a success. The chance is still there.

"It's the last game of the season, so it's important they don't go down with a whimper. They can go out there and give everything they've got. You can never guarantee results, but what you can guarantee is total, all-out commitment. And that's what we'll be giving. We know as well as Motherwell know that if we get the first goal then it's game on. It's easy to say it, but we've got to do it."

Meanwhile, McCall has said club captain Lee McCulloch could return due to the suspension of Darren McGregor, but it may not be at centre-half.

"Lee can also play up front," he said. "He's played everywhere - central midfield, holding midfield, at the back and up front. The game won't be the prettiest, it will be a case of us trying to get balls in the box. He would give us another option in that area."
