Scotland player ratings

It said a lot about Scotland last night that their best performer was goalkeeper Allan McGregor. Here's how they all rated, out of 10:

ALLAN McGREGOR: The pre-match injury doubt could do little about the opener and was twice off his line quickly to block one-on-ones. Got away with needlessly leaving his boot out to collide with Mirko Ivanovski. 7

ALAN HUTTON: Lack of club action told at times but generally sound and some strong runs forward without getting in behind. 6 PAUL DIXON: The left-back could not maintain the standards of his man-of-the-match debut against Serbia. Too many loose passes and looked vulnerable against Macedonia's attacking play, although improved after the break. 5 ANDY WEBSTER: McGregor saved him after an unwise attempt to play offside but otherwise decent on a busier than expected night. 5 CHRISTOPHE BERRA: Wolves centre-back put in another solid display. 6 GARY CALDWELL: Has done a good job in the holding role previously but looked out of place in midfield tonight when Scotland needed to move the ball sharply against slick opponents. 5 JAMES MORRISON: Inconsistent in possession. Helped set up the opener with a clever pass but was again below par. 5 SHAUN MALONEY: Rarely gave the ball away but was unable to hurt Macedonia where it mattered. 6 JAMIE MACKIE: (pictured) Lost possession several times in his own half but got better the further up the park he went. Good run and vision to set up the opener. 6 JAMES FORREST: Showed his ability to go past players on occasion but not involved enough and was lacking in defensive duties for the Macedonia opener. 6 KENNY MILLER: A couple of decent lay-offs but his link-up play was not at its best. Good movement for his goal. 6 SUBSTITUTES CHARLIE ADAM: Injected some much-needed pace into Scotland's possession play after replacing Miller in the 58th minute. 6 JORDAN RHODES: Came on for Morrison in the 66th minute and almost immediately cemented his hero status with a diving header but it flashed wide. Not much else fell for him. 5 STEVEN NAISMITH: Given the last 13 minutes to add some spark up front but did not have much opportunity to make an impact. 4
