GOALS from Caroline Weir and Zoe Ness ensured Scotland made the perfect start to the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship in Strommen last night.

The Scots were underdogs against a confident Belgium side which had eliminated Germany at the qualifying stage, but responded magnificently for their first ever win in a Euro finals.

Gareth Evans' side now top Group A as hosts Norway drew with the Netherlands in the other match played last night. Scotland took the lead in 10 minutes through the captain, Weir, before going two up just before half-time when Ness, who plays for Durham, took advantage of an assist from strike partner Abbi Grant to steer the ball home off a post.
