ST JOHNSTONE

ALAN MANNUS - His luck was in as efforts from Ryan Dow and Nadir Ciftci hit the woodwork and fell to safety but he also produced some good saves as United chased the game. 6/10

DAVE MACKAY - Looked troubled by Gary Mackay-Steven's running until a powerful tackle put the winger out the game. 6

BRIAN EASTON - The left-back put in a faultless defensive display. 8

STEVEN ANDERSON - Guided a header inside the post to open the scoring on the stroke of half-time and defended well throughout. 7

FRAZER WRIGHT - Broke out of the back line to make a succession of strong challenges to stop United coming forward and kept his composure during a running battle with Ciftci. Let nothing past him. 9

CHRIS MILLAR - Typically busy display at the base of the Saints midfield. 6

JAMES DUNNE - Threatened with an early volley that was well saved and helped stop United playing. 6

DAVID WOTHERSPOON - A consistently creative presence in the Saints midfield, his corner set up the opener and he almost scored after a wonderful run on the break. 8

MICHAEL O'HALLORAN - The winger used possession well and tracked back to good effect. 7

STEVEN MacLEAN - Played some good first-time lay-offs in the early stages and took his one chance well to clinch a 2-0 win after some alert forward play. 7

STEVIE MAY - Had a number of ambitious long-range efforts but wasted his one clear chance when he bizarrely handled the ball over the line after his initial header was saved. But worked hard for the team after being moved to left wing for the second half. 6

Substitutes

LEE CROFT (for O'Halloran, 73) - The winger mostly had defensive duties to attend to and he did them well. 5

GARY McDONALD (for Wotherspoon, 85) - Brought on to defend the lead moments after MacLean's goal. 4

DUNDEE UTD

RADOSLAW CIERZNIAK - Acrobatically tipped over Dunne's volley but was at fault for the opener when he came way off his line and failed to gather Wotherspoon's corner. Hurt himself trying to prevent the second. 5

KEITH WATSON - A competent defensive display but could not influence the game going forward. 6

ANDY ROBERTSON - Covered well in defence and was a constant threat moving forward, he forced Mannus into a good stop from 25 yards. 7

SEAN DILLON - Made some important interceptions in the centre of defence. 7

GAVIN GUNNING - Let no-one down in what looks to be his final game for the club. 6

PAUL PATON - A calming influence in a hectic opening spell, he was sacrificed for an attacker as United chased the game. 6

JOHN RANKIN - Too often wasteful in possession. 5

STUART ARMSTRONG - The Scotland Under-21 midfielder had an unusually quiet afternoon, being unable to get in behind the Perth defence. 5

RYAN DOW - Continued the strong form that earned him a place and was unlucky to see his flick come off the inside of the post. 7

GARY MACKAY-STEVEN - Some direct and skilful running caused Saints problems and he was crudely halted on a number of occasions before limping off. 7

NADIR CIFTCI - Hit the underside of the bar with a free-kick and was inches away from an equaliser with a late drive, but he walked a disciplinary tightrope in several clashes with Frazer Wright. 7

Substitutes

RYAN GAULD (for Mackay-Steven, 63) - Could not get on the ball often enough to create an opening. 5

BRIAN GRAHAM (for Paton, 77) - The striker failed to hit the target when presented with a decent chance just after coming on. 4
